What is the Machinery Breakdown Cover?

Our policy indemnifies you against any unforeseen physical loss or damage to machinery from any cause not specifically excepted which necessitates repair of replacement to allow continuation of use.

Here is a summary of what it can cover*

  • Machinery, Plant, Equipment
  • Deterioration of Stock in Trade under refrigeration
  • Own surrounding property

This policy is also extended to cover*

  • Automatic reinstatement
    We provide for the automatic reinstatement of value after loss.
  • Automatic cover for additional items
    This is subject to declaration within 30 days.
  • We will hold covered temporarily any additional item of machinery of class or type insured by the Policy, installed at the situation specified in the schedule from the time it is put into operation.
  • Foundation and masonry
  • Plant on hire or loan
    We cover liability for loss or damage to and arising out of the use of a plant on hire or loan catering for twenty percent of the sum insured.
  • Removal of debris
  • Loss of Refrigerant or Insulating Oil
    We provide for the renewal of refrigerant/insulating oil necessitated by breakdown.
  • Payment on Account
    In the event of liability being admitted in respect of a claim under this policy the Insurer will without prejudice to their rights under the policy make payment(s) on account as may be required by the Insured in respect of such claim.

This policy does not cover the following*

  • War and related perils and terrorism
  • Expendable items such as glass bulbs, tubes batteries, cutting, edges, conveyor belts, and the like.
  • Costs incurred in repairing wear and tear or gradual deterioration.
  • Willful neglect.
  • Damage due to fire and related perils.
  • Loss or damage to any item of plant which was known to be defective before the loss or damaged occurred.
  • Or occurring during installation or erection other than dismantlement, movement, and re-erection.
  • Damage resulting from an experiment or overload or similar test which require the imposition of abnormal conditions.
